- Attending your first Lesson
Arrive in plenty of time, around 15 minutes before the start of the lesson. Ensure the swimmer has not eaten a meal in
the last hour.
You will need swim wear, a towel, possibly a swimming hat (check with us) and a snack and drink for after the lesson.
Parents should bring some clean flipflops or be prepared to remove shoes.
We do not encourage the use of swimming goggles until children are competent swimmers and at least 8 years old. Younger
children spend far longer playing around with them, moaning that they are leaking and generally paying more attention to the
goggles than the swimming teacher!
Babies and Toddlers still in nappies should wear a water nappy, which can be purchased from all large supermarkets. We
also highly recommend you purchase a baby/toddler water suit from us, which means the youngsters stay warm and are less slippery
in the water. We have seen them all, but the Konfidence suits are the best and we have them in stock ready for your first
lesson.
2. If your child is nervous
Arrive 30 minutes early so that you can watch the class beforehand. Swimming pools can be quite nerve wracking for young
children that do not have much water experience. It is very important to remain calm and positive.
Feel free to call our office beforehand to talk through any concerns, and do not be afraid to ask for help. We have heard
it all before believe me! From children that scream for the duration of the lesson, to those children that are super confident
- on holiday - but refuse to get in for swim lessons. We have the answers!
Please expect your child to take a few weeks to settle in to the routine of their lessons. To get to know the
names of their new class mates, and familiarise theirselves with the environment and noise. The children will get to
know their swimming teacher and learn to trust them.
Most children do get right in and and off they go on week one. It will depend on the nature of your child as some
are naturally cautious and some are super adventurous!
3. Can we take photographs?
Unfortunately, due to child protection, we cannot and do not allow any photography or filming in or around the swimming
pools. This policy is initiated by the schools and we fully implement it.
However, we do aim to use a specialist water photographer once per year to take photos of your children
above and below the water. Please keep checking the website for the next session.
4. Do you offer private lessons?
Absolutely. We can organise at any location for yourself or your child to have a one-to-one session with one of our qualified
instructors. We reccommend this for particularly nervous swimmers or those that may require more attention that can be given
within a group lesson. The cost is £20 per lesson and must be booked and paid for inadvance for the term. This is alos a good
option to fast track your child, for example if you have a holiday booked and would like them swimming by a certain date.
Although we can make no guarantees, what we can promise is that you will progress far quicker in a private lesson.
5. My Child is always getting ear infections!
Swim Ear are ear drops you can get on the internet (www.swimshop.co.uk) and are great as a preventitive for ear infections, all the teachers use them! They work by drying out any risidual water
left in the ear after swimming. Also, ear plugs work, please avoid buying blue ones though as when they fall out, they are
really hard to find against the blue tiles of the swimming pool! A swimming hate will help to keep the ear plugs in place.
